CNAME Record
Discover more about CNAME records, if they're needed and how they can fit within the DNS system.
Setting up a CNAME record for any of the domain addresses or subdomains that you have in a hosting account will allow you to point it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded domain name will lose all its records - A, MX and so on, and will take the records of the domain address it's being redirected to. In this light, you cannot set up a CNAME record to direct your domain to a third-party provider and retain a working email service with the first hosting company. It's also very important to know that a CNAME record is always a string of words and never a number as it is often wrongly identified as the A record of the domain name being redirected. One of the main uses of a CNAME record is to forward a domain address you own through one company to the servers of some other provider assuming you have set up an Internet site with the latter. This way, the website will appear under your own domain address, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party provider.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting
Managing DNS records usually seems a hard task to the people with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with each
semi-dedicated hosting service which we offer, is very simple to use. If you want to set up a CNAME record for any purpose, all that you will have to do will be to choose the domain address or subdomain that you need, choose the type of record, that will be CNAME in this case, then type the value i.e. the domain or subdomain you are forwarding to. The process is very easy and you can create the record in the DNS Records section of the CP. Within the hour the new record will be completely active and within a few hours it'll propagate around the world. If you aren't sure what you have to do, we've prepared an in depth help article and a short video tutorial concerning how to go about creating a CNAME record and they are both located in that same section of Hepsia. Naturally, you can also get in touch with us for help at any moment.
